My Typical Day

People often wonder what it’s like to be both a stay-at-home mom and a Virtual Assistant. The simple truth? It’s beautifully chaotic.

Financially, the decision made itself. The cost of hiring a nanny outweighed the income I would’ve brought in from a traditional 9-to-5. But behind the logic lies a string of sacrifices—quiet, everyday choices I’ve made to stay present with my child.

I’ve exchanged salon appointments for home haircuts, swapped spontaneous shopping sprees for diaper hauls, and placed my fitness goals on the back burner. Time alone is a luxury I rarely get to indulge in. My days are dictated by the cries of a tiny human, the persistent ping of work notifications, and the unyielding hum of domestic responsibilities. Still, there’s purpose in the madness.

How Do I Manage?

To call it exhausting would be an understatement. Working from home with a baby is a masterclass in multitasking, patience, and mental stamina. There are toys scattered across the living room, emails half-typed between bottle feeds, and meetings taken with a child on my lap.

Distractions are the norm, not the exception. Efficiency becomes elusive when nap schedules shift and teething strikes at inconvenient hours. And yet, by some miracle—or maybe muscle memory—I manage to meet my deadlines. It’s not always graceful, but it gets done.

Since my college days, I’ve functioned best under pressure. There's a certain adrenaline rush that fuels my focus as a deadline looms. It's a double-edged sword—I despise my procrastination habits, but I thrive in the urgency they create. It’s not ideal, but it’s honest. And in a world where my clients depend on me, that motivation is enough.

Why do you ever complain? You have the EASIEST job

I hear it often. Too often. “You’re so lucky.”
“I wish I could stay home all day.”
“Being a Virtual Assistant must be a breeze.”

Let me be clear: I am fortunate, yes. But my job is far from easy. This isn’t a vacation. There’s no background music or cinematic montage. It’s long hours, endless to-do lists, and minimal recognition.

Being a Virtual Assistant is often a solitary pursuit. There’s no office banter, no team lunches, no IT guy to troubleshoot a glitchy system. When a problem arises, it’s me versus Google at 2 a.m. And while working in pajamas sounds dreamy, in reality, it blurs the line between rest and responsibility. I often forget to eat. Self-care slips through the cracks.

This role demands emotional agility—juggling the needs of clients and a crying toddler, often at the same time. It’s not easy. It’s just invisible.

Work-at-Home Mom, Stay-at-Home Mom, Office Mom — Every Role Is Valid

Motherhood wears many uniforms—some with power suits, others with spit-up-stained hoodies. Each one carries its own set of trials, triumphs, and unsung heroics.

There’s no hierarchy of difficulty. No one-size-fits-all rulebook. Whether you spend your day at a desk downtown, behind a stroller, or toggling between spreadsheets and Sesame Street, the work is real. And it matters.

Balance isn’t a destination. It’s a daily recalibration. Some days I nail it—emails sent, dinner made, baby smiling. Other days, I’m just surviving on coffee and good intentions. If my home isn’t a disaster zone, my husband is fed, and my clients are happy, I call it a win.

The Truth Behind the Screen

This life isn’t filtered. It’s not curated for Instagram. It’s messy, unpredictable, and deeply fulfilling in ways words often fail to capture.

I don’t have all the answers. I don’t always get it right. But I show up. For my child. For my clients. For myself.

And that’s what a typical day looks like.
